As an act of commitment many couples exchange matching promise rings. The rings can have different meanings for the couples who wear them. They can for example stand for an exclusive relationship. This means that you are solely dating one partner only and the ring signifies your link to them. Promise rings also symbolize a vow of purity that says you will remain intimate until marriage. These rings can also represent a pre-engagement. Most of these rings however are worn by young adults and teens who don't have large incomes.
Promise rings costs on average between $50 to a few hundred dollars depending on the choice of materials used in the ring. Sterling silver is relatively inexpensive. It combines pure silver with another metal for cost effiectiveness and durability. Gold is one of the most expensive ring making materials. It comes in different purities called Karat designations. Eg. 14, 18 and 24 Karat (KT). Titanium and stainless steel are cheaper than gold, and remain highly fashionable at the moment. They are trendy, tough and durable.
A promise ring can be given from a boyfriend to a girlfriend as a symbol of his commitment. Another common trend is for couples to exchange matching promise rings. These make for a fashionable and romantic gesture. Gold, silver and titanium bands can be engraved with names, dates and brief messages. Many stores will include engraving as an incentive to buy at little or no additional cost. Matching bands can adorned with diamonds and colorful gemstones. Celtic engraving are also quite popular.
Matching promise rings are given by anyone who is old enough to have a serious relationship. You will see a lot of high school students and young adults wearing promise ring bands. Dating couples who are not ready for an engagement can declare their devotions to each other with a promise ring. Can these rings really substitute for an engagement? Well many will laugh at the prospect of young lovers entwined in puppy love. But whilst promise rings can be fashionable with young adults, they also represent love and devotion. Which can't be a bad thing.
